State attorneys general settled very few consumer protection multistate investigations in 2011. A multistate investigation ocurrs when a number of AG’s combine their investigation of a company and/or person and usually enter into a settlement with all of the AG’s. Of course the one they did settle was a biggie – AstraZeneca for $68.5 million. The AG’s of 37 states alleged that AstraZeneca improperly marketed the antipsychotic drug Seroquel for unapproved conditions in children and elderly patients. From viewing the public record, there appear to only be one or two other multistates settled in 2011 compared to almost a dozen in 2010.
