Shaun Petersen

Shaun Petersen concentrates his practice on assisting businesses within the automotive industry comply with consumer protection regulations. Shaun has represented both franchised and independent dealers, finance companies, service contract companies, and marketing firms, among others. Shaun has appeared on behalf of these clients before state and federal courts, the Ohio Motor Vehicle Dealers Board, before Attorneys General and other regulators. Shaun currently serves as counsel to the Ohio Independent Automobile Dealers Association.

Shaun also represents clients in the telemarketing, consumer mortgage lending and charitable industries. Shaun also assists companies with related privacy matters. Shaun successfully represented a telemarketing company in an investigation conducted by the FTC in which the FTC agreed to take no action against the client.

Shaun has appeared as a guest speaker in many conferences and provided numerous media interviews on the topic of consumer protection laws.

Prior to entering private practice, Shaun was a Senior Deputy Attorney General and Chief of the Consumer Protection Section under former Ohio Attorney General Jim Petro. During his tenure, Shaun worked on federal and state consumer oriented enforcement actions and legislation including Ohio’s security breach notification law.

Shaun also has four years of experience as an assistant attorney general in the Environmental Enforcement Section, representing Ohio EPA and the Bureau of Underground Storage Tank Regulations in civil litigation before state and federal courts. In 2011, he received the high honor of being appointed by Governor John Kasich as a Commissioner on the Environmental Review Appeals Commission. Shaun also serves as a Magistrate in the Reynoldsburg Mayor’s Court.
